JOHN HARRIS has been painting pictures within the genre of Imaginative realism for more than 40 years. Best known for the hundreds of book covers done for many of the world's greatest writers of science fiction, he was also the first British artist to be commissioned by NASA, for their Art Program.

He sees his work as a continuation of the tradition of English Romanticism, which dominated the early and middle 19th Century, through artists such as John Martin, J.M.W. Turner and others.

Unlike these artists, whose preoccupations were with Time, Death and the Spirit of Man and who tended to look to the past for their references, John aims to throw our attention forwards into the future, and to show how these same concerns are fully with us still. The vast perspectives and haunted spaces of the fevered Victorian imagination, are now, in this age, translated into the threateningly close realities of the 21st Century.

This work led him to be invited by the selectors of IlluxCon to join in their annual exhibition of Imaginative Realism in 2010. Since then he has become a regular participant.

In the Spring of 2014 a new book of his work, The Art of John Harris; Beyond the Horizon , was published by Titan and there is now a film, Beyond the Horizon, available via Facebook , at or at
